Thrifty Foods' annual Food for Families and BC Sharing programs provide sixteen community-based food banks with close to $400,000 a year. These funds are used to purchase groceries for distribution to those in need in our communities at Christmas time, and throughout the year.
A special thank you to our many customers and staff who participate in our food bank programs. Your generosity helps ensure that individuals and families have access to nutritious food throughout the year.
Food For Families
Food for Families is offered in all 27 stores at Christmas. Thrifty Foods customers have the option to purchase $5, $10 or $20 coupons at the till. Now in its fourth year, Food for Families has raised over $850,000 for over 15 local food banks across BC since 2008.
BC Sharing
BC Sharing, is a company-wide, year-long program that allows customers to add a $2 donation at the till. Each store's donation is passed along to food banks to enable them to purchase food as required throughout the year. In 2010, BC Sharing provided more than $180,000 to food banks across BC.
Sources Community Food Bank
In 2010, Thrifty Foods Morgan Crossing donated 1% of sales to the Sources Community Food Bank, providing $18,701 to those in need in the White Rock/South Surrey community.
