Supporting Students

Every year, Thrifty Foods supports university, college and high school students in our communities through various programs, including entrance awards and scholarships. See below for examples from recent years.

Thrifty Foods supports students at the post-secondary level with entrance awards to Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Greater Vancouver, Camosun College in Victoria, and funds towards the Family Matching Program at Vancouver Island University. We have provided over $80,000 to students at these institutions to date.

One young recipient of our scholarship program is Camosun College student and Oak Bay High School graduate Dan Fainstein. Mr. Fainstein, who is pursuing an education and career in both teaching and psychology, earned the Camosun College/Thrifty Foods Entrance Award for $1,000 towards his education expenses. This is one of 18 identical awards that Thrifty Foods and Camosun College co-present annually to Victoria-area secondary students.

Secondary

Thrifty Foods provides citizenship awards and scholarships to all seven Nanaimo-area secondary schools and to Cowichan Senior Secondary each year. Since 2008, we have supported these mid-Island high school students with a total of $27,500.

Internship - BC Cancer Foundation

To support BC high school students who complete an internship at the BC Cancer Foundation during the summer months, Thrifty Foods has contributed $25,000 in trust - to support the scholarship program.
