Purify Your Air
NASA research on indoor plants found that living plants are so efficient at absorbing contaminants in the air that they are considering launching them into space as part of the biological life support system aboard future orbiting space stations.
Studies show that house plants can purify and revitalize the air in your home and office. Plants act as filters because they absorb the toxins in the air through their leaves.
Researchers have discovered that many common houseplants work to eliminate significant amounts of harmful gases - such as formaldehyde and benzene - out of the air through photosynthesis, absorbing pollutants and rendering them harmless in the soil.
These findings are especially relevant for inhabitants of newly constructed buildings, which are sealed tightly to conserve energy but consequently trap pollutants indoors. NASA researchers recommend that you have a minimum of two plants per 100 square feet of floor space in your home or office.
