Thisfish - Traceable Seafood

Thrifty Foods has partnered with Vancouver-based non-profit Ecotrust Canada to launch http://Thisfish.info; a site dedicated to helping you trace your fish from shore to store.

Here's how it works: each fish has a unique code attached to each catch that will call up a map of where that fish was caught, who caught it, and what the boat was called. Even the captain's log is included!

Thrifty Foods offers our customers three traceable fresh species (Wild King Salmon, Wild Halibut, and Wild Sablefish), along with four frozen Sensations by Compliments products (Wild Sockeye Salmon, Wild Halibut, Wild Sablefish, and Wild Albacore Tuna), conveniently packaged as fillets and portions.

Through the Coastal Waters line, we offer Ocean Wise-approved frozen Wild Pink Salmon (undressed), Wild Pink Salmon Maple Barbecue and Wild Pink Salmon Honey Chipotle portions, caught by hand and net in our very own Fraser River. This fishing technique makes little environmental impact and any animal by-catch (non-targeted fish species, caught accidentally) is immediately returned to the river.

We look forward to expanding the list of fish species traceable through the Thisfish program in the days ahead.
