Sponsorships
At Thrifty Foods, we receive hundreds of requests for community support from a wide range of organizations each year. In order for us to support as many deserving community groups as possible and to better understand our community's needs, we ask that you complete our application process. Thank you for your interest in Thrifty Foods.
Criteria for Community Support
In order to be eligible for community support, the applicant must be a registered Canadian Charity or a registered BC Society and reside in an area in which Thrifty Foods does business. To qualify, the event or project must directly benefit the community. It should also serve one of the following main areas of focus:
- Arts & Culture
- Education
- Environment
- Health & Wellness
- Sport
- Youth
Those Ineligible for Support
Applications from the following will not be considered for community support:
- Organizations unable to demonstrate, in detail, their measures of success
- Groups participating in the Thrifty Foods Smile Card Fundraising Program
- Any individual or business endeavors
- Professional sporting groups
- Groups who have already received a major donation or sponsorship in the current year
- Collection of funds for subsequent redistribution to other charities or individuals
- Promotion of political organizations and/or affiliated activities
- Expenses for expeditions or overseas travel
- Conference or seminars
- Salaries or operating costs
How to Apply
If your request fits the outlined criteria, prepare and submit a package including the following:
- A cover letter, on organization letterhead, that includes:
- Name of organization
- Contact name
- Brief description of the organization
- Number of paid employees and number of volunteers in the organization
- Event/project details including a full description, timelines and any additional sources of funding for the event/project
- Recognition opportunities for Thrifty Foods
- A completed Thrifty Foods Community Support Application Form ensuring:
- All questions are completed in full
- The appropriate official of the organization signs the form
- A copy of the form is kept for your records
Submitting the Application Package
Requests under $500 should be directed to the attention of the Store Manager and delivered to the Thrifty Foods location closest to the organization at least two weeks prior to the event or activity. Please visit only one store with your request.
Requests over $500 should be mailed or faxed at least eight weeks prior to the event or activity to:

Thrifty Foods is not responsible for any lost or misdirected application forms.
How are Applications Assessed?
Applications for $500+ requests are reviewed on a monthly basis, under $500 requests are reviewed bi-weekly. Thrifty Foods reserves the right to make all final decisions on which groups receive what level of support. Due to demand, and our commitment to support a fair and equitable cross-section of as many community organizations as possible, not all applications are able to be approved.
