Research with Children and Young People

Occasionally, our projects focus on the attitudes, opinions and preferences of those under the age of majority. Respondents under the age of 18 may participate in our projects only with the consent of an adult member in the household. When responses from children (those under 12 years of age) and/ or young people (those 12 to 17 years of age) are needed for a survey, adult members of the household will be asked to discuss with these individuals in their household whether or not they would be willing to participate.

If an applicant to the Customer Panel indicates that he/ she is under the age of 18, they will be made a member. However, only if an appropriate project is planned will they receive further communication from us. Two options for participation will be given, as detailed below.

  • Option 1 - we will supply an online permission form that can be printed out, signed by an adult member of the household, and returned to us
  • Option 2 - the applicant can ask an adult member of the household to join the Customer Panel and have access to our studies via the adult member

These policies are consistent with those recommended by the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association (MRIA) of Canada.
